Wine tasting and tour of Villa Medicea di Lilliano and our farewell dinner
My friend Eric recently became the manager of the Villa Medicea di Lilliano near Grassina. We were excited to see how he has transformed this century-old estate, making it a world-class venue for weddings, corporate retreats or simply for those who wish to experience the Tuscan lifestyle. Originally the estate was owned by Grand Duke Ferdinando II of the famous Medici family. The villa is now home to Diletta Malenchini and her family who have owned the estate for over two centuries.

Eric welcomed us into his office and walked us around the grounds, stopping to allow us to savour the views from the many terraces. We were only twenty minutes from Florence (Eric often bicycles to work) yet the serenity of the countryside makes this the perfect escape into Tuscan tranquillity.
We toured the wine cellars and ended in the tasting room where the table was beautifully set.
Eric skillfully explained each wine as we learned about the villa’s offerings.
Later in the shop, we could buy the wines as well as the estate’s olive oil and other products.
My favourite place was the garden where many weddings are now held. I could imagine the place alive with fairy lights and almost hear the soft music as the bride and groom declare their vows in the presence of friends and family.
We left knowing we had visited a place alive with history and continuing to make memories for all who visit.
Tonight is our last dinner and we are having a special bistecche dinner at Il Colle with all of our neighbours.
Thank you, Giovanni and Rosella, for making our stay so memorable.
See you in April when Nancy, Mary , LeAnn, Toby and Lynda arrive.
You didn’t tell me people I know went on that trip with you. Hope they liked it as much as we did. (Especially Giovanni, !!!!! ha, ha, ha!!) Christa and John are looking good…especially with wine glasses in front of them…
